Applicants for examination must meet the following requirements for the following examination(s):

  • A minimum of at least two years with 4,000 hours of work in the field of plumbing installations as a licensed trainee plumber under the supervision of a licensed master plumber; or a minimum of 2,000 hours of work in the field of plumbing installations as a licensed journeyman-in-training under the supervision of a licensed master plumber, as long as the work experience is obtained within four years of the date upon which the applicant was issued a journeyman-in-training license.

The licensing fees are:  $150.00 for a Journeyman plumber.

  • Application fee of $25.00
  • Background Check fee of $21.00
  • The licensing period is 2 years from the date of issuance.

    Maine currently does not have reciprocal agreements with any state for Plumbing classifications.

    Maine does not requires continuing education for Plumbers at this time.

    • The testing company is Prov
    • The exam is a closed book and consist of 100 questions with a 3 hour time limit.
    • It is all multiple-choice. A score of 75% is required to pass the exam. The exam fee is $60.
    • If you should fail the exam, you must wait 14 days before retaking a failed exam. If you do not obtain a passing score during the 24 months after approval, you must reapply through the state.
