Pre-approval is required to sit for the exam.

An official college transcript documenting at least a bachelors degree from an accredited electrical engineering program AND documentation of at least one year of practical electrical experience as a licensed apprentice electrician. OR Official transcript of an associate degree from an electrical trade school AND documentation of at least two years practical experience as a licensed journeyman electrician. OR A certificate of completion from an approved electrical trade school and documentation of at least 4 years of practical experience as a licensed journeyman electrician

A S200 General Electrical Contractor must be licesed as a Master Electrician with the State.

Limited reciprocal agreements exist with Arizona, California, Louisiana, Nevada and South Carolina. Reciprocity is limited to a waiver of the trade exam in a similar classification as long as applicant is in good standing.

Limited reciprocal agreements exist for Electrical Contractors with Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington and Wyoming.

Applicants must complete 16 hrs of continuing education to renew their license. 8 hours must be on the current edition of the National Electrical Code.

The exams are administered by PSI. They are open-book, multiple-choice and have time limits.

There are 80 questions,on the Code Exam. A score of 75% is required for passing and you have 3 hours to complete.  Exam questions cover the following topics:  Definitions& General Requirements, Raceways & Enclosures, Services, Feeders & Branch Circuits; Overcurrent Protection, Conductors & Cables, Grounding & Bonding, Motors & Controllers, Communication Systems and more....

There are 50 questionson the Theory Exam.  A score of 75% is required for passing and you have 100 minutes to complete.  Exam questions cover the following topics:  Voltage, Current, Resistance, Power & Voltage Drop. There are 10 questions on each topic.

There are 7 questions on the Practical Exam. Student have 2 hours to complete is is a pass or fail scenario. Exam topics include Wiring Projects, Material Identification & Conduit Bending.
