- Colorado regulates Electrical and Plumbing licenses at the state level.
- Building contractors are not regulated at the state level. However, many cities and counties have local license requirements, and many use the same ICC National Standard Building exams.
- Pre-approval is required for all Electrical and Plumbing trade exams.
- No pre-approval is required for the ICC National Standard Building exams.

National Standard General Building Contractor (A) (B) (C)
General Building Contractor A is licensed to construct, remodel, or repair any structure or addition.
Building Contractor B is licensed to construct, remodel, or repair commercial buildings and single-multi-dwelling buildings not exceeding 3 stories.
Residential Building Contractor C is licensed to construct, remodel, or repair residential buildings not exceeding two stories

Requirements Master electrician license applicants must have five years experience and training documented, and pass the master electrician's examination.
Residential wiremen must have two years experience.
Electrical contractors must be, or employ, a master electrician registered with the State Board.
Colorado Journeyman Wireman
Electrical contractors must be, or employ, a master electrician registered with the State Board.
Colorado Master Electrician
Electrical contractors must be, or employ, a master electrician registered with the State Board.

Plumbing work is regulated at the state level and, in some cases, at the local level.
Experience requirements consist of five years for Masters, two years or 3,400 hours for Residential, and four years or 6,800 hours for Journeymen. Reciprocity Plumbing licenses, in some cases, may be obtained by endorsement. For endorsement information, contact the board.
