A Master Electrician has the ability to plan, layout, supervise, and conduct the installation, maintenance, and extension of electrical conductors and equipment.
A Journeyman Electrician has the ability to install, maintain, or extend electrical conductors and equipment. All work must be done under the supervision of a Master Electrician.
Any person or business that is a Master Electrician or employs a Master Electrician as its superintendent or manager may become an Electrical Contractor by making application with the Licensing Board and paying the $100.00 licensing fee. No further testing is necessary unless you are bidding jobs over $20,000.
The Business Law exam is required for projects exceeding $20,000 and is required for an Electrical Contractor’s license. For jobs less than $20,000 applicants only the trade exam is required.

The application screening committee meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Applications must be in 3 business days before the meeting.
The State Licensing Board has a reciprocity agreement with the following States:
8-hours of Continuing Education is required of all Master and Journeyman electrician licenses, for each National Electric Code cycle.
The Board of Electrical Examiners of the State of Arkansas shall promulgate rules to set standards for continuing education for licensees under this section.
Exam topics are General Knowledge, Grounding and Bonding, Service Feeders, Branch Circuits and Overcurrent Protection, Raceways and Enclosures, Conductors, Motors and Controls, Special Occupancies and Low Voltage Communications, Alarms and Safety.
