We carry many of the approved reference materials for the Hawaii General Engineering License examination and the Business Law examination. The exam is closed book however being familiar with the approved references will greatly increase an applicants chances.
In addition to the books listed there are others that can be used to study that are out of print or not available from the publilsher.

Pre approval is required to sit for the exam
The Business Law exam is required
Applicants must have 4 years of supervisory experience within the last 10 years
Applicants must pay a fee to the Contractors Recovery Fund
Applicants must document a credit report covering the pervious 5 years, a current financial statement prepared by a CPA, a current state tax clearance for the Dept of Taxation, and prior to licensure applicants must show workers compensation and liability insurance.
The exam covers the broad range of activities performed by a General Engineering Contractor as defined in Title 16, Chapter 77 of the “Hawaii Administrative Rules.” Examination questions are based on research of the accepted business and trade practices as determined by surveying current professionals in the field of General Engineering.

Currently, Hawaii does not require Continuing Education for its contractors
The General Engineering exam is closed Book with 100 Questions and a 4 hour time limit.
75% Correct is required to pass
Exam Topics include Bridges/Miscellaneous Structures, Planning/Surveying, Earthwork, Utilities, Heavy Equipment, Canals, Reservoirs and Flood Control, Asphalt Pavement, Concrete Pavement, Estimating/Basis of Payment, Metal Barriers, Striping, Signs and Fences, and Safety - OSHA 4.
