A completed application must be submitted to the state licensing board to obtain approval to test.
Applicants must have a degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university and an additional 8,000 hours (4 years) of electrical experience in field construction, electrical estimating, electrical project management in commercial/industrial work. Or, applicants must have 16,000 hours (8 years) of experience in the electrical trade performing electrical work, estimating or project management in commercial/industrial work.
There are no state mandated minimum financial requirements for this license.
The Limited Electrical Contractor is prohibited from doing any hands-on electrical work. This license allows the holder to work as a manager doing electrical project planning, estimating, etc. Licensed limited contractors are prohibited from doing any of the work of a Journeyman or Apprentice. Applicants must take the Electrical Business and Law Exam in addition to the Limited Electrical Contractor Exam in order to obtain this license.
Fees must accompany the application. The licensing fee is $330. ($300 for license & $30 for processing)
Applications will be processed once per week. Wait time for approval should be less than two weeks.
The limited Contractor is not required to carry a surety bond or liability insurance unless he hires an unlimited contractor to work for him.

Oklahoma requires that 6 hours of approved CE must be completed every 36 months (3 years). A licensee is exempt from these requirements for 3 years from the date he or she initially passes the current licensing exam. As of July 1, 2014, no contractor or journeyman license shall be renewed unless 6 hours of Continuing Education, within the last 36 months (3 years), have been completed. Thereafter, 6 hours of CE must be completed every 3 years (36 months).
The exam is given by PSI. It is an open-book, timed test with 100 questions and a 4-hour time limit. As of 11/1/24, a score of at least 70% is required to pass the test. The exam fee is $92.00 per exam
