Oklahoma Plumbing Journeyman and Gas

Installation, repair and maintenance or extension of any plumbing system, including sanitary drainage waste and vents, water supply, plumbing fixtures and roof drains and also install, maintain, or repair gas piping, appliances, vents, flues, tanks and other related appurtenances in a supervised environment. The Journeyman must be employee of a Plumbing Contractor. A Journeyman may not contract.

Applicants must submit a completed application to the state licensing board to obtain approval before testing.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must document at least 3 years of experience.

There are no state mandated minimum financial requirements for this license.

Fees must accompany the application.   The licensing fee is $75. ($50 for License & $25 for processing)

Applications are reviewed once per week. Wait time for approval should be minimal.

The Board may enter into a reciprocity agreement with another State if the requirements for licensure in the other State are deemed by the Board to be substantially the same or equivalent to the requirements for obtaining an original license by examination in this state.

Oklahoma requires that 6 hours of approved CE must be completed every 36 months (3 years). A licensee is exempt from these requirements for 3 years from the date he or she initially passes the current licensing exam.   As of July 1, 2014, no contractor or journeyman license shall be renewed unless 6 hours of Continuing Education, within the last 36 months (3 years), have been completed.  Thereafter, 6 hours of CE must be completed every 3 years (36 months).

The testing company is PSI. It is an open-book, timed test.

There are 80 questions and a 3-hour time limit. A score of at least 75% is required to pass the exam.

The test fee is $100.

Exam content includes Knowledge and Regulations, Piping, Valves, and Control Valves, Fixtures and Equipment, Water Supply, Drains and Sewers, Vents, Traps, Interceptors, Indirect & Special Waste, Isometric Analysis, Fuel Gas Safety.
