Licensing Fees for both Master and Journeyman Electrical Classifications are $90.00
Licenses belong to the business. A person can take the exam and pass and qualify his or her business. If they purchase a second business, they do not have to test, but they must submit a new application for the new business.

Limited Reciprocity agreements exist with Maryland, North Carolina, West Virginia, Alabama and Kentucky for Master Electrician classification only.
Virginia requires Electricians to complete at least 3 hours of continuing education from a provider that has been approved by the Board. This must be done before you can renew your license.
Testing is administered by PSI.
It is an open book timed test, the Journeyman exam has 70 questions and 210 minutes to complete. 70% is required to pass for Journeyman.
The Master exam has 90 questions, with 270 minutes to complete. 70% is required to pass the Master exam.
The cost of the exam varies, based on the number of exam portions being taken.
$100.00 for the Journeyman exam.
$125.00 for the Master exam.
Technical exam content includes: General Electrical Knowledge, Requirements for Electrical Installations, Electrical-Electronic Fundamentals Services, Feeders, and Branch Circuits, Service and Feeder Requirements, Grounding and Bonding, Conductors and Cables, Raceways and Boxes, Special Occupancies, Special Equipment, Electrical Signs and Outline Lighting, Fire Detection and Alarm Systems, Motors and Controls, Utilization Equipment, Lighting, General Low Voltage Requirements and Communication Systems.
Statutory/Regulatory section is incorporated into the exam and content includes: Standards of Practice, Standards of Conduct, Renewal and Reinstatement, Definitions, Qualification for Licensure and Revocation of Licensure.
