Arizona (C-16 or CR-16) Fire Protection Systems (Residential/Commercial)

Installation, alteration and repair of fire protection systems using water, steam, gas or chemicals. Included is any required excavation, trenching, backfilling and grading, piping from structure and connections to off-premise water supply adjacent to property involving a fire protection system.


Systems may include the following areas of work and related equipment: restaurant hood protection systems; fire pumps and drivers; pressure and storage tanks; all piping and valves; sprinkler heads and nozzles; and application of materials for the prevention of corrosion or freezing. Also included are air compressors, air receivers, bottled inert gases, pressurized chemicals, manifolds, pneumatic, hydraulic or electronic controls, low voltage signaling systems, control piping and the flushing and testing of systems.

The Arizona Business Management exam is required.

Applicants are required to have 4 years of verifiable experience.

Rather than reciprocal agreements with other states, Arizona waives the trade exam for any applicant who has been the qualifying party within the last 5 years for a license in good standing in a classification the Registrar deems equivalelnt in another state, and passed a comaprable trade exam to obtain that license.

Arizona does not currently have Continuing Education requirements

The Business Management exam is also required.

The C-16/CR-16 exam is 75 questions, multiple-choice with a 180 minute time limit.

The exam is semi open-book with 70% required to pass

Exam fees are $66.00 for one exam or $116.00 for two exams (Business Management and one trade)

Testing is through PSI and approval is required
