Oklahoma Natural Gas Contractor

This license allows for work in the installation, repair, alteration, or extension of gas piping and gas mains. It includes all natural gas piping within or adjacent to any building, structure, or conveyance, on the premises and to the connection with a natural gas meter, regulator or other supply source.  All Mechanical Contractors are required to take the Mechanical Business and Law Exam in addition to the contractor’s exam in order to obtain this license.

Additional Services

The first step in the licensing process is to submit a completed application to the state licensing board to obtain approval to test.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Applicants must be at least 19 years of age and verify at least 4 years of experience.

FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS: There are no state mandated minimum financial requirements for this license.

All types of Mechanical Contractors are required to carry a $5,000 Surety Bond and at least $50,000 in liability insurance.

LICENSING FEE: The application and licensing fee is $225

Fees must accompany the application. The licensing fee is $330. ($300 for license & $30 for processing)

Applications are reviewed once per week. Wait time for approval should be minimal.

The state of Oklahoma does not have any reciprocity agreements for this license.

Oklahoma requires that 6 hours of approved CE must be completed every 36 months (3 years). A licensee is exempt from these requirements for 3 years from the date he or she initially passes the current licensing exam.   As of July 1, 2014, no contractor or journeyman license shall be renewed unless 6 hours of Continuing Education, within the last 36 months (3 years), have been completed.  Thereafter, 6 hours of CE must be completed every 3 years (36 months).

The exam is given by PSI. It is an open-book, timed test with 40 questions and a 2-hour time limit. A score of at least 70% is required to pass the exam. The test fee is $100.00
